Took a quick shot of the inside of my our MacBook Pro.

It was easy to open the case; popped it open in just a couple minutes. When I lifted the bottom off it was another beautiful sight. It’s always amazing to look inside the hidden parts of Apple technology. I’ve always loved to look inside electronics at the wonder of vacumn tubes to circuit boards.

But I must say that Apple machines are exceptionally so.

What the heck is unicode?

Remember computers just deal with numbers. Unicode enables a single software product or a single website to be targeted across multiple platforms, languages and countries without re-engineering. It allows data to be transported through many different systems without corruption.

Unicode provides a unique number for every character, no matter what the platform, no matter what the program, no matter what the language.

Isn’t technology great? The power of individual creativity enabled by digital technology.

Nook is the tablet with the power. The Kindle Fire is a budget reader to sell from the Amazon Store. The Nook, that’s another story. Amazon will get the budget market with people that think it is more.

With the Nook Color, Barnes & Noble hit on the first winning tablet strategy not patterned after the iPad. With firmware updates, B&N steadily improved the capability of the device, adding Flash, games, and Android apps. Now, though, media heavyweight Amazon is looking to follow the same strategy to blow Barnes & Noble out of the water.

We almost bought one of these.

Then we read the review at FastCompany and now we’re not so sure. We’ll save you from reading the full review. (We found the writing annoying. Don’t publishers use copy editors anymore?)

This product is a reminder of how important it is for products to “just work”. There appear to be too many steps involved to sync the wristband with your phone. Wouldn’t you think it would be effortless? This company has plenty of smart designers it seems they tried to get the product to market too soon.

Here’s how it should work. You wear your wristband all the time, as recommended — when it comes in proximity to your phone a sync is triggered. How do you make it work and conserve battery? Hey that’s what Apple figures out all the time. Jawbone discovered it’s not that easy.

We’ll wait to discover if the next version will address the shortcomings. Hope so because there is so much that is right.

Ok, so a QR Code won’t get us to shop at J. C. Penny but it sure put the retailer on our radar. It has such a different feel from all the bland stuff that they have done until now.

So who’s your Santa?

The iPad is beginning to take hold in the airline industry. Quite surprisingly the airlines are.

Bonus: American Airlines, during its iPad trial program, suggested that by ditching the heavy paper-based pilot flight bags for iPads, they’d save enough weight to reduce their annual fuel bill by $1.2 million. Which also means less polluting fuel is burned.

We’re Making Pages Better (yeah right)

We want to make sure the tools you use to manage your page are as effective as possible. Here’s an update that may affect how you connect with your audience:

Improvements to Insights: You’ll now see a new public metric called People Talking About This underneath your fan count to show the number of people on Facebook who have engaged with your page in the last 7 days. Learn more in your Page Insights.

RSS Importer for Notes: People are more likely to interact with your content if you add personal comments and respond to feedback left on your Wall. While you can still write individual notes, you’ll no longer be able to automatically import content from your website to your page. This feature will no longer be available as of October 31st.

A cohort was originally one of the ten divisions of a legion in the Roman army, containing from 300 to 600 men. The most common use of cohort today is in the sense “group” or “company”: A cohort of hangers-on followed the singer down the corridor. In a development emphasizing the idea of companionship, cohort has also come to mean a single companion, associate, or the like: Steve Jobs was in my chort.
