*IDEAorangeWe’ve just retired our old svinfospace. It had been in use from the beginning of 1997. Do you remember the internets in 1997? Before there were social networks and knowledge-space applications for any organizations – never mind small work groups — we built a space from threaded discussion software to serve our teams and clients.
We had a technology slam. Our pal and partner in many a technological adventure, Peter Fraterdeus | @ideawords came to Philadelphia and we jammed for a week. The svinfospace originally was installed in our on-site server. We used permissions to set up a divider between our internal and external audiences. A visitor logged in to one area or another. The internal audience had greater access to research and other process related content. It was invaluable and totally aligned with our key belief: shared knowledge = smarter decisions.
It was finally time to retire this threaded-discussion software for a new more versatile platform/framework.
We do lot’s of development using Drupal. We selected the platform because of it’s flexibility, developer community, and most importantly it’s taxonomy features. Working with taxonomy is powerful. We can allow a particular taxonomy to be available to clients and our internal teams. This would enable us to share certain research documents the the studio uses in all projects across the divide with clients.
So now we’ve embarked on a renovation. The new improved sv*infospace will as always reflect the culture of stellarvisions maintaining humanity in a technological space and alignment in it’s visual and technological vocabularies. It will be the repository of years of knowledge and project work. A history of learning.
The new sv*infospace is being built with Drupal [6.16]. It’s exciting to retool such an important part of our studio. We’re looking forward to putting up a case-study.
Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual, a community of users, or an enterprise to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website.
