illustration from Hands Up! or Enemy no. 1 by Rifkat Shayfutdinovich Bagautdinov, 1971

An amazing illustration. I searched everywhere for more information about the illustrator but can’t figure out anything or if there are any of these books still available.

Printed in Russia.

Design is the meticulous act of folding clean clothes. Art is the freedom in getting them dirty.

Just found this film thanks to Jaime García. We love the forms, physics, and music.

Nokta . (Dot .) is an abstract short film project which has creative, distinctive style of production and is an improvisation of organic pieces while considering themes like power, control and luck.

Consider, Amos Funkenstein, The Dialectical Preparation of Scientific Revolutions. On the Role of Hypothetical Reasoning in the Emergence of Copernican Astronomy and Galilean Mechanics.

We found out that Atlantic City has a wordmark. Did you know that? News to us. Sorta strange. We found it at Typophile. You can see it in action here: http://www.atlanticcitynj.com

We mostly use the cloud to store files. But occasionally ya need an external memory device. The reuse of film canisters just seems right. We’re so use to carrying them in a pocket or bag. They feel familiar and friendly. We found them at photojojo along with some other fun items for our wish list. Like Camera Len’s Bracelets.

While we are on the subject of cameras. Want to play around with SLR Camera settings and learn how the settings affects your photo — without actually using it? You can do it with the Online SLR Camera Simulator. It’s a simple application allows you to choose the lighting, ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Don’t know what those things are? Find out A great tool to teach someone the basics of photography.

Liquid graphite? Going out to buy a couple Sharpie® Liquid Pencils and check em out. Absolutely LOVE anything Sharpie. Graphite that you never have to sharpen is pretty cool too.

Well this is our first shot so it may be a little rough.

Stay with us as we iron it out, debug, figure it all out.

Thinking out loud about the fact that The NYTimes has put it’s digital subscriptions plan into action. What’s that going to mean to all of us sharing links out here on blogs, Facebook, and twitter?

We guess all our links are for a limited time only.

Intrigued by the headline: El Salvador, Design Thrives. It was actually a little fluff piece as far as the writing went but with some photos worth looking at. Design is in the details and they are very nice details in this 1250 square foot space that is home and lab to the ideas of Harry and Claudia Washington.

It was a sad discovery yesterday when I found my iPod Shuffle in my cargo shorts that had just gone through the wash cycle. Loved that little clip thingie. Decisions decisions what to replace it with now. Another shuffle with voice control and 2 gigs of music for only $49 bucks. Color? Basic aluminum of orange?

The CIA on the ground in Libya? We’re shocked.

We’re looking to add a section of carpet to define a soft meeting space in the studio. Two possible solutions. A very nice black and white striped rug at IKEA. Or something more creative using Flor. Don’t know about Flor? Flor is perfect for someone who just can’t make up their mind. You buy squares and mix and match as you like. You connect the squares together using adhesive dots and you can hose it down for cleaning. Replace just the worn tiles. We can’t resist the amazing colors and textures and with a rug type called House Pet we’re all in. (BTW Flor really into sustainability but shouldn’t that a given?)

The USS Olympia is up for sale. The Olympia was commissioned in 1895 as one of the first warships designed for electricity. It’s the last surviving ship of the Spanish American War and it’s just a short walk from our studio. It’s a wonderful piece of history and design. Come see it at Penns Landing while you still have the chance. Here’s some wonderful pics.

Our client Maryann Devine does a wonderful thing at her website smArts & Culture. It’s called The Random.

We’ve decided to do something like that here at ideaorange.

We’re going to test it out and see how it can work into the development of our new website. Folks are always asking us what’s new, what’s interesting —we’re not sure we can answer those questions. But, we can give you a look at some of what we are paying attention to and what feeds the ideas and informs our practice. Some of these things are trivial, not sure if any will be profound —we’ll try to keep it interesting.

We hope you’ll let us know what you think.
